Hélène Rastegar

Berlinale Talents 2026 and IDFAcademy alumna, Hélène Rastegar is a screenwriter and director of fiction and documentary movies.

Trained to shoot and develop Super 8 and 16 mm, she move between digital and analog formats, exploring fiction, documentary, and experimental cinema—often through independent or collaborative projects.

Her work is shaped by a dual Iranian heritage, constantly evolving, and inhabited by women whose bodies carry the tension of inner battles: to endure, to speak, to exist.

Deeply engaged in the independent film community, she is a member of SAFIRE Grand Est, where she leads the Documentary Workshop. She also teach cinema at secondary school, University and private school, and contribute regularly to film and audiovisual reading committees. Her commitment had been granted by the Copernicus Prize for Dialogue and Peace.

After the discovery of her father’s taxi in the Vistula with an unidentified body into it, Mina, 20, Franco-Iranian, finds herself stranded in Warsaw, waiting for the identification and to settle the inheritance issue. But between a half-brother who hates her and an Iranian diaspora who keeps sending her his illegitimacy, she discovers that the heaviest legacy is not material: it is abandonment and the impossibility of belonging to somewhere.
